What is a Medical Emergency?

A medical emergency is a situation that you believe threatens your life or someone else's, a situation where immediate medical care help is needed. An emergency includes: Unconsciousness, stroke, chest pain, breathing difficulty, intense bleeding, fractures and severe pain.

When should I call 911?
If you are not sure if you should call an ambulance, you might want to answer these questions:       
- Is this condition life-threatening?
       
- Could the condition worsen if you take it to the hospital on your own?
       
- If the victim is moved, will it worsen the injury?
       
- Does the person need skills or equipment an EMT can provide?
